Ambassador Martin Selmayr at WFP – List D meeting with the WFP Executive Director
In times of tremendous global uncertainty and huge challenges for the work of humanitarian aid, Ambassador Martin Selmayr had a useful meeting this morning of List D countries with the leadership of WFP in Rome. On behalf of the European Union and joined by EU colleagues, the EU Ambassador thanked Cindy McCain WFP Executive Director, Carl Skau, WFP Deputy Executive Director and the committed WFP staff for their hard work in the (too) many crisis hot spots in the world and their readiness to continued close dialogue.
The EU is and will remain a reliable and predictable partner to the WFP. We support the UN80 process of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres and are ready to work with WFP and other UN organisations on enhanced synergies, notably when it comes to the supply chain of humanitarian aid. Quoting the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, Ambassador Selmayr recalled the imperative need to respect international humanitarian law and expressed grave concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
As regards the principles and values underpinning Official Development Assistance, Ambassador Selmayr recalled the conclusions of the EU Council of Development Ministers of 25 May 2025, notably our continued commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals.
